Title: The Wisdom of Connectivity

Program Description:
Professional life too hectic to talk to colleagues except in emergencies and at conferences? Martin kick starts the 40th GACE conference with insights into how intelligent connectivity encourages success and fulfillment in both our professional and personal lives. He’ll talk about why and how we need to be connected and the tangible rewards we can win when we commit to our own enlightened self-interest.

Title: Forming an Employer Advisory Board

Program Description:
Learn the nuts and bolts of how to form an Employer Advisory Board for your Career Center and how this Board can enhance Career Center/ employer relationships while strengthening operations, resources and services. Participants will gain an understanding of Berry’s approach including vision/purpose and goals, board member recruitment and composition, meeting formats, and responsibilities. Benefits for Employers and Career Centers will be highlighted.

Program Description:
Three years ago, our University President said in his State of the University address that he wanted KSU to become known as the "Experiential Education University" for the University System of Georgia. This obviously was a challenge given to my staff and me to meet. During the workshop we wish to present some ideas that have helped us address that challenge and hopefully lead us to the President's goal. The learning outcomes will hopefully the sharing of new marketing and organizational ideas from both the presenters and the attendees.

Program Description:
How can employers keep in touch with college students on a tight budget? We will discuss methods Mauldin & Jenkins and other employers use to maintain positive relationships with colleges and students in a down economy. The program will feature an employer panel and encourage attendees to share suggestions of creative ways employers can utilize to maintain a presence at colleges and universities, even on a tight budget.

Program Description:
Georgia Work Ready is led by the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development, launched in August 2006 to improve the training and marketability of Georgia’s workforce and function as an essential element of the infrastructure for delivering workers with the best foundational skills. By identifying both the needs of business and the available skills of Georgia's workforce, the state can more effectively generate the right talent for the right jobs, also helping drive Georgia’s future economic growth. To date, over 129 thousand Georgians have earned the Georgia Work Ready Certification and the ACT WorkKeys® National Career Readiness Certificate, and Work Ready Regions have been established and aligned to the state’s fastest-growing strategic industries. In this session you will learn about the key elements of Georgia Work Ready and how Work Ready Communities are partnering with education to prepare the emerging workforce. Go away from this session with some ideas about how the Georgia Work Ready credential can be used as an essential component of the individual’s career development, how it might be implemented into Career Services, and how the employer could use the Georgia Work Ready credential in the hiring process. Georgia Work Ready is easy to access and free!

Have a question about GACE? Have an opinion on topics like membership dues, networking activities, etc.? If so, we’d love to hear them! GACE Town Hall meeting is an informal discussion opportunity for GACE members to talk with GACE leadership about the activities, events, and concerns you may have.

Title: From Advising To Action: Getting Faculty More Involved With Career Services

Program Description:
The Office of Career Services at Clayton State University experienced an 85% increase in student workshop attendance from Fall 2008 to Fall 2009. One of the significant factors in this increase was the involvement of a newly created Faculty Support Team. Many offices have included faculty in advisory capacities, but this team agreed to promote Career Services to their students in specific ways. During this workshop, participants can learn about the process of developing the Faculty Support Team concept, the steps for recruiting participants, the actions that Career Services and the Faculty members have taken to make the initiative successful. As a result of participating in this workshop, attendees will be able to:
• Describe the value of faculty support for Career Services programs
• Name incentives that might attract faculty support on their campuses
• List steps in developing a faculty support team
• Identify actions they might ask faculty support team members to take
Title: The Career Carnival: Having Fun (gasp!) in Promoting Career Development on Campus

Program Description:
The Career Carnival was successfully launched at Georgia State University in the fall of 2009 and was designed to increase student awareness of career development. The Career Carnival also educated students on how to utilize on-campus career services. All this was done using a fun and engaging programming format: 10 interactive carnival booths, each having unique career development-oriented student learning outcomes associated with each booth. This presentation will share how the Career Carnival was developed, funded, and implemented, including the assessment of the student learning outcomes. Interactive examples of select booths will be presented so that participants can experience the potential of the Career Carnival. Finally, plans for the fall 2010 Career Carnival will be discussed, as new booths are being added and some revised dramatically. Participants will learn how to design and host a Career Carnival, and how to associate student learning outcomes with the activities, making assessment fun and a breeze.

Program Description:
The program provides an overview of social media recruiting tactics and technology to target and embrace the millennials interests. It will also explain the differences and purposes of Twitter, Facebook & LinkedIn and learn how they can leverage your recruiting strategy on campus. We will also cover successful and unsuccessful strategies that have been used by career centers and employers, and how to create an effective social media plan. The program will teach participants why social media is important to use to reach students, how to connect with other career centers and employers, and which types of social media may be best to use based on their personal needs.

Program Description: The annual GACE Business Meeting is a chance for members, in a formal meeting environment, to hear the year-end recap of everything from finances to membership to conference plans for 2011. Votes on items like by-law changes and officers for 2010-2011 are done during the business meeting, so make sure your voice is heard!

Program Description: In this Job-Alike Session, you will meet with GACE Members in similar positions to yours. You will then get to discuss best practices, process and procedures, frustrations, etc. The sky is the limit.

Program Description:
It is 2010, but disparities still exist in areas including financial compensation and professional development for women. As career professionals much can be done to advocate for women's equality in the workforce. My presentation will examine the practices of centers across the nation and inform participants of what we can all do to advocate for fair practices in the world of work.

You didn't know you wanted to be a Career Services professional when you were a kid, but now you can't imagine being anything else. Whether you're just curious about the career path of a director or you're ready to make the jump now, this panel discussion will give you the information you need. A panel of directors representing a variety of career paths and institutions will speak candidly about their current role as a director and how they got there. Participants will leave the session with a better idea of the responsibilities, challenges, and rewards of being a director as well as the types of experience, skills, and abilities they will need to reach their goals.

The University of Georgia Career Development Internship (CDI) program has provided 4-5 undergraduates each year the valuable opportunity to serve as integral members of the Career Center staff and as peer mentors to promote the importance of career development for students at UGA. Title: Earn Your Worth - Don't Let the Wage Gap Get You!

Program Description:
By using the research, training, and techniques developed by the WAGE (Women Are Getting Even) Project, career counselors can help young men and women entering the work force to understand their needs, their worth, and how to negotiate salaries. This training helps any job seeker but is especially geared toward traditional college graduates. The greatest focus is on helping young women begin their careers on an equal footing with their male counterparts so they will not fall behind and experience the wage gap, but it applies to males in equal measure. Workshop participants learn to create their own budgets, research salary ranges for positions by geographic area, and learn when and how to negotiate salaries and benefits.

Program Description:
Find out about the new Georgia County Internship Program, which connects students in a wide range of majors with internships in various county departments for a hands-on understanding of local government. Two membership organizations, ACCG and ARCHE, came together to unite counties and colleges and form this partnership likely to become a model for states across the nation. GCIP recently received a $250,000 grant from the Georgia Department of Labor to fund a college intern in each of Georgia’s counties. Learn the nuts and bolts of using the program and share your ideas for its future.
