Greetings from the 2018-19 leadership team! I am extremely excited about the new year as we collectively work together to ensure that our organization continues to provide valuable resources to employer partners and students. Our transition team has already begun reviewing our best practices and lessons learned from last year to establish innovative goals.
According to NACE, even though the 2018 hiring outlook was down 85.7% of employers still plan to recruit on college campuses this fall for full-time and intern/co-op opportunities. This is good news for the GACE community as we focus on providing quality programming that meets the needs of our partners. As in most teams, we will not be able to do this alone; we will need each GACE champion to assist in a grassroots effort to recruit and maintain valuable members.
Our strategic plan for the year:
1. Increase GACE employer partners by 40 members to recruit innovative leaders that will help carve the conversation regarding the future needs within the state of GA and beyond.
2. Increase GACE member institutions by 10% to represent 75% of Georgia's colleges and universities. Intentional outreach provides an opportunity to identify strategies for programming and recruitment in real time.
3. Create intentional programming to recruit employers and institutions in the southern part of the state (Henry, Bibb, Lowndes counties). Meaningful collaborationsprovide an opportunity to expand our offerings in unique ways.
According to Kathryn Jordan in her article, The Relationship of Service Learning and College Student Development (1994), service learning increases appreciation for diversity, skill development, and awareness of self and civic engagement. Therefore, this year the experiential learning team will have a special focus on incorporating community engagement and service learning programming as they relate to students' readiness to enter for the workforce.
As you can see, there is plenty of work to maintain so we encourage you to join us in the quest by volunteering in any capacity. Get connected! We look forward to seeing you in December as GACE will have the opportunity to serve as host at this year’sSOACE conference in Atlanta! Never let it rest until your good becomes your better andyour better becomes your best!
