GACE and the Professional Development Committee are excited to launch a Learning Series for “Young Professionals”. The focus will be on a variety of topics meant specifically to enhance the development of young professionals and anyone looking to expand their leadership reach.  Whether you are a College or Employer member, you won’t want to miss these conversations meant to inspire, create meaningful connections with other members and challenge your professional “comfort zone”.

These virtual conversations are scheduled the 2nd and 4th Fridays in February and March from 12pm – 1pm. The first of the series is scheduled for February 12th and will focus on “Podcasts to Propel Young Professionals: Analyzing your Work Life – Examining Authenticity in the Workplace and Effective Networking Practices”.

PODCASTS TO PROPEL YOUNG PROFESSIONALS

Analyzing your WorkLife: Examining Authenticity in
the Workplace and Effective Networking Practices

Led by Amanda Long, Director of Employer Relations and Career Outreach, Kennesaw State University, Department of Career Planning and Development and GACE Past President 2016-2017

For this conversation, we’ll listen to two podcast episodes from the popular podcast: WorkLife with Adam Grant. As you listen, I encourage you to think about:

What are your "light bulb moments" as you're listening?

Do you agree or disagree with the points being made?

Is anything missing from the conversation, particularly as it applies to our work in career services or recruiting?

Podcast Episode: “Authenticity is a Double-Edged Sword” (WorkLife with Adam Grant)

Can you be truly authentic at work, and is that even a good idea? How can young professionals discover their authentic selves while moving toward their career goals? Let’s discuss what we think it means to effectively “bring your whole self to work.”

Podcast Episode: “Networking for People Who Hate Networking” (WorkLife with Adam Grant)

“Networking” is the buzzword in effective job searching, but are we just going through the motions? For those who don’t enjoy networking (I’m looking at you, fellow introverts!), how do we manage this aspect of our work and educate our students and interns on appropriate strategies? We'll analyze the suggestions offered in this episode and share our own experiences with networking.
