    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    Emory University's Career Center is seeking an Assistant Director of PreLaw Advising.

    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    The PreLaw Advisor provides career counseling services to undergraduate students, graduate students and alumni concerning career development, career options (including graduate and professional schools) and employment.

    Assists in coordinating on-campus recruitment, career-oriented workshops, mock interviews and job search strategies for students.

    Develops and maintains relationships with potential employers and alumni to encourage their participation in career forums, panels and informational interviews with university students.

    May assist in developing and evaluating student internship programs.

    May administer and interpret a variety of career assessment inventories to assist students with career exploration and planning.

    Assists in creating or editing communications and publications related to career planning and placement.

    Supervises student employees.

    Performs related responsibilities as required, including as follows:

    Advising:

    Conducts individual advising on a wide variety of topics related to pre-law preparation and the law school application process, including guidance on course selection, experiential learning and engagement, career/professional development for a legal career, crafting an effective law. school application narrative, and best practices on completing specific application components

    Reviews documents used in the application process, including personal statements, resumes, addenda, and other essays as required for completing applications.

    Programming:

    Holds workshops to explain the law school application process to students who are actively applying each cycle.

    Creates and hosts legal career panels, law school fair (annually), law school networking events, and other workshops and programs designed to educate students on legal career options, law school life, preparing for law school, and the law school application process.

    Communications:

    Maintains annual registration of Pre-Law Email Listserv for current students and recent alumni.

    Builds, maintains and manages Pre-Law Alumni Database for use by current students to connect with Emory alumni at law school of interest.

    Produces a monthly pre-law newsletter to communicate upcoming events, law school news/events, law school application tips, pre-law preparation guidance, legal experiential opportunities, and other relevant information to pre-law student community.

    Development

    Work with Recruiting Team to solicit legally-related opportunities for students

    Conduct outreach to Emory Alumni lawyers for participation in pre-law events or providing legal opportunities.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    A master's degree in psychology, student personnel and higher education or a related field.

    One year of experience in career planning and placement, vocational testing or a related field.

    NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
